01How often does an RTO need maintenance?
Typically every six months, which means two planned services a year. For comparison, activated carbon under film coating conditions usually has to be replaced every one to three months, and each replacement involves shutdown, removal, loading, hazardous waste disposal and restart.
02What does a semi-annual service actually include?
It is not a quick visual check. It covers heat exchange media inspection and cleaning, burner condition, valve sealing, control system parameter verification, and calibration of the emission monitoring instruments where a continuous monitoring system is installed.
03What capabilities does a proper service require?
Professional tools: a borescope for the media, a flue gas analyser for the burner, torque wrenches and sealing-surface tools for the valves, signal generators and multimeters for the control system. Experience matters too — judging how much dust accumulation needs cleaning and how much cracking needs replacement depends on reading RTO operating data. Spare parts must be available, and maintenance records must be complete and retained for at least three years.
04Can the factory carry out the service in-house?
It depends on the maintenance team. With high-temperature equipment experience, a working knowledge of RTO principles, the necessary inspection tools and a spare parts stock, in-house service is feasible — provided complete procedures and a record system are established. Without those capabilities, a long-term service agreement with the supplier is the practical route.
05What does semi-annual maintenance cost?
Maintenance needs its own line in the annual operating budget. For small and medium systems, total annual maintenance runs about RMB 5,000–15,000, mainly fan and valve replacement plus sensor calibration. For large RTO systems it runs about RMB 100,000–200,000, including heat exchange media cleaning, burner tuning and valve seal replacement.
06What are the hidden benefits?
Beyond preventing breakdowns: regular cleaning keeps heat recovery efficiency at design level, which directly holds down gas consumption; worn parts replaced early keep small problems from becoming major failures over a 10–15 year service life; maintenance records are favourable evidence in environmental inspections; and technicians often spot parameters that can be optimised.
